The Shootout class is putting up huge numbers in big heat and humidity when this track is
not suppose to take the punishing summer heat.  Conditions be damned, these guys a
flying!   Josh Bricker and Mike Losser were the stand outs in qualifying with Bricker
leading the field running a 7.54 with Mike Losser on his heels at a 7.61.

The opening round came down this way.  Kent Stotz would face Mike Thomas.  Both
riders were on kill off the line cutting .009 and .003 lights respectively.  Stotz however
brought out the big stick and puts down a 7.64 to down Thomas who puts up an 8.03
Mike Losser then took on Bob Krzemien.  Mike’s performance feel off a bit but was still too
much for Krzemien who was having teething issues with some new carbs.  Joe Peters then
took on Mike Claycomb.  Claycomb is capable laying down mid seven second runs at a
moments notice.  Joe Peters on paper should be the victim here.  That is why we don’t do
these on paper.  Peter’s takes a huge .07 holeshot over Claycomb and wins running an
8.20 to Claycombs quicker 8.16. Glenn Stickels would then face Terry Cook.  Stickels gets
out of the gate first the Cook does a huge wheel stand and Stickels is gone just missing
the sevens running an 8.001.  Finally, Josh Bricker would face teammate Steve Battatglia.
Both rider left with equally slow lights but Bricker upped the ante lowering his qualifying
effort down to a 7.50 @ 192 for the win.

ROUND TWO ACTION
Round two would be a barrage of seven second runs.  In fact all but one rider put up
a seven second run.. Glenn Stickels would square off against Joe Peters.  Peter’s once
again gets the holeshot but has issues down track and Stickels run a 7.93 for the win.
Kent Stotz now faced Mike Losser.  Stotz kills the tree again cutting another double oh
bulb with a .008.  Losser had a tenth to make up and pushes hard but Stotz runs a 7.72 to
down Losser’s 7.96.  Lastly, Josh Bricker then comes out on a bye run and sets a new
Bryon Dragway track record and throws down a 7.37 @ 196.99 mph!  WTF!!!!!!  Who
says this track wont take horse power!
LOSSER (L) vs STOTZ(R)
PETERS (L) vs STICKELS(R)
BRICKER ON BYE RUN
In the semi final round Glenn Stickels would have the job of downing Bricker while
Kent Stotz enjoyed a tuning round with a bye run.  Bricker once again drops the hammer
and runs a 7.57 to Stickels trailing 8.03 for the win.  Stotz left before the tree activated but
had major spinning off the line anyway.
ROUND THREE ACTION
STOTZ ON BYE RUN
STICKELS (L) vs BRICKER(R)
The finals was truly a battle of the titans.  Kent Stotz would get out first with his worst
light of the day, an .046, if you call that “worst”.  With almost a tenth in the bank Stotz
pushes hard but the black bullet of Bricker’s charges past running a 7.47 @ 192 for the
win.   Truly the best consistent big numbers that Bricker has laid down in succession all
year.

Overnight on Saturday the powers that be were turning the power screws up on
everyone in the Shootout Class.  Unquestionably the quickest qualifying field in series
history with seven of the eleven entries in the seven second zone!  And not just over
the line but well into the mid-sevens.   Once again Josh Bricker lead the field running a
7.47 but the next three were just over a tenth behind.  Who says you can’t put power
down on this track in the summer heat?  These racers were doing some very
impressive tuning and driving.

In the opening round Matt Thomas would leave on Joe Peters, which is rare because
not too many people get out ahead of Peters.  Peters gives a valiant effort but the
Nemesio Beltran tuned ride of Matt Thomas was too much to run down and Thomas wins
running a 7.88 to Peters 8.19.  Kent Stotz was again all over the tree taking a major
holeshot of a tenth over Terry Cook cutting a lightening quick .035.  Stotz betters his
qualifying effort running a 7.56 to end Cook’s afternoon.  Glenn Stickels then took on
Steve Battaglia.  Stickels took the lead off the line and never looked back also running
into the sevens with a 7.98 to down Battaglia’s troubled pass.  Brad Westphal, the only
other nitrous entry along with Peters, would take on Mike Losser.  Losser’s performance
has taken a dramatic stride forward after finding a suspension problem.  Losser was
routinely running well into the sevens.  Westphal was out first by almost a tenth over
Losser.  Losser’s bike was in the wrong gear at the launch and killed his chances of
running down Westphal who would advance to round two running an 8.16.  Josh Bricker
on his earned bye run, rips off another 7.47 at 194 mph.  Mike Claycomb was due to race
Bob Krzemien.  Krzemien however, was not able to make the call due to motor concerns.
Claycomb dodged a huge bullet as when he started his bike in the water for the pass, the
o-ring in the oil filter blew out dumping oil all over the ground.  Thank God that happened
where it did or the results could have been devastating.  With quick help of many of the
class competitors the bike and mess were cleaned up and Mike was able to stage under
power to take the round win

The second round was also littered with sevens.  In what was almost the biggest
upset of the weekend, Matt Thomas went red with a -.004 and tossed out a 7.82 to
Kent Stotz’s slower 7.84.  Oh so close.  Josh Bricker could have won in the ET class
with the numbers he lined up today.  To back up the two 7.47’s he would now run a
7.48 to hand former class Champ Glenn Stickels his walking papers for the day.  Mike
Claycomb then took on Brad Westphal.  Brad took a big .07 holeshot lead on
Claycomb but the big yellow rocket reeled Westphal back in a wins running a 7.70 at
185 mph to move on to the semi’s.

THOMAS(L) vs STOTZ(R)
Kent Stotz had the perfect time for the bye run into the finals to use for tuning.
Too much clutch turned his rear tire into a smoking gun and showed him where too
much was located in the tune up department.  Mike Claycomb would now have his
chance to stop the Bricker machine.  Claycomb comes out first but by the 330 it’s all
Bricker again.  And unbelievably, Bricker again runs a third 7.47!  That is four runs
within .01 of each other, truly amazing.
ROUND THREE ACTION
"THE MASTER AND GRASS HOPPER"
KENT STOTZ ON BYE RUN
CLAYCOMB(L) vs BRICKER(R)

The finals was a repeat of Saturday’s contestants.  Two big names of the game
would lock horns once again.  Stotz absolutely kills the tree ripping off a .008 banking
over a tenth on Bricker.  If Stotz can repeat his earlier performance that holeshot
would be more than enough to stop the juggernaut of Bricker.  Unfortunatley Stotz’s
bike lost traction shortly after he launched and Bricker finally slows, but only to a 7.55
at 190 mph for he second win in as many days.  This class was leveling off for a
couple of years in the performance area.  However, in the last two years these racers
have worked their collective asses off and have undoubtedly turned the corner and
really stepped up the quality of the bikes and performances.  Our hats are off to all of
you, incredible.
