Since there were several other competing events running in the area the count
was down just under 50 bikes. That however, didn't sour the level of competition
or level of intensity shown throughout the weekend. We'll pick up the race in the
finals of all three factions of the class.
Bruce Damewood and Tom Cole would square off in the Box Final round.
Cole drills the tree cutting his third double oh bulb in a row. Damewood cut a
decent .039 but it won't cut it against Cole's double oh and on his dial. Cole
3:16 says "I just whooped your ass"
COLE .009 RT 8.92 DI 8.984 @ 134 << WINNER
DAMEWOOD .039 RT 8.31 DI 8.395 @ 153
Charles Willis and Derrick "Mowhawk" Riffell made their way through five rounds of
racing to meet up in the Street ET final round. Riffell made his way through some of the
toughest SOB's in the class to only face one more in Charles Willis. Willis faced his own
line of big dogs too with the likes of Dougherty and Haisler just to name two. Chasing
by only a couple tenths Riffell leaned a shade too hard on the tree and went red by .008
ending his hard fought battle, Charles Willis would move to the round of three.
WILLIS .106 RT 10.18 DI 10.909 @ 109 << WINNER
RIFFELL -.008 RT 9.77 DI 13.46 @ 67
In the No Box final round it was Scott Parker and Jeff Bucaro. Bucaro leaves first
but gives the chasing Parker way too much at the tree. Parker is able to easily run
down Bucaro with his .011 bulb and moves to the round of three also.
PARKER .011 RT 9.00 DI 9.812 @ 100 << WINNER
BUCARO .142 RT 10.25 DI 11.21 @ 119
After the three way coin toss to determine who gets the bye into the big money
round, Tom Cole from the Box class would come out on top of that one. Charles Willis
and Scott Parker would have to race for it.
PARKER .038 RT 9.00 DI 9.057 @ 141 << WINNER
WILLIS .088 RT 10.20 DI 10.07 @ 128
My apologize, I don't have a photo of the final round. Scott Parker would be
leaving first against Tom Cole in the King of The Hill run. Parker cuts an .026 but
Cole straps yet another double oh bulb on is competitor. However, Coles steed
lets home down and can't run the number and Parker knows all too well what to do
when your rival in the other lane is not in the traps when you are, dump enough to
take the stripe, but not enough to let them back around you.
PARKER .026 RT 9.05 DI 9.108 @ 128 << WINNER
COLE .008 RT 8.94 DI 9.079 @ 141

Once again facing high heat and humidity, the entire ET Class suits up for
another assault on the 1320 of Byron Dragway. Although the class was a few
bikes short, there was a delayed 12:00 pm start which left everyone with only one
time run to get their bikes in order. What started out looking like it would be an
early finish ended up, thanks to an oil down, to not run the final pair until almost
7:00 pm.
In the Box Final round Tom Ewig and Bill Homuth would square off. Homuth
would be giving chase to Ewig by a couple of tenths. Homuth does a bad job of
red lighting and goes .000 on the tree while Ewig must have blinked and went a
way off .061. Homuth goes around Ewig on the top end and Ewig can do nothing
but push him to try and break him out. Nothing doing, Bill Homuth moves on.
HOMUTH .000 RT 9.42 DI 9.455 @ 132 << WINNER
EWIG .061 RT 9.77 DI 9.742 @ 129
I have another case of a missing name again. Justin Laffoon below in the right
lane would be taking on #2002. Laffoon would be chasing down is opponent by
only a couple of tenths too. Mystery Man gets the better light by just a slight
margin the race is on. Laffoon pushes hard on the top end forcing our Mystery
Man to breakout by .005 while Laffoon goes two over and moves on.

LAFFOON .054 RT 9.69 DI 9.719 @ 139 << WINNER
#2002 .047 RT 9.82 DI 9.815 @ 134
In the No Box Final round it would be two Old Salty dogs going at it. Scott Parker
and John "Nitrous" Niles were the last two standing. Niles would be leaving first.
John must have been all jacked up on the Mountain Dew, because he went red in a
big way and gave Parker a welcome test run out the back door.
PARKER .014 RT 9.11 DI 9.042 @ 140 <<WINNER
NILES -.071 RT 10.19 DI 10.187 @ 124
The way the three way coin toss turned out, Bill Homuth would be getting the Bye
run into the big money round. That left Scott Parker, who stands a chance of
doubling up, and Justin Laffoon to race for it. Parker would be spotting Laffoon by
nearly a second. Laffoon cuts a respectable light with an .085, but Parker is quicker
cutting an .048. On the big end Parker rolls out of the throttle a tad too much and
Laffoon sneaks past by the slimmest of margins (.003) and stops Parker in his tracks.

At the end of a long hot day, Bill Homuth made a very classy gesture. I'm
sure it wasn't to get mentioned here at all, but it just goes to show the class of
racers we enjoy. Without being asked, Bill offered a split of the money to
Laffoon. I won't disclose their deal, but that was a very cool deal. Anyway, now
the rest of the story, page two. Justin Laffoon would leaving first again with
Homuth hot on his tail. Unfortunately, Laffoon goes red by -.021 and gives Bill
his first win here in four years of battle. Wait a minute, maybe that was a
payoff!!!! How about it TC? Just kidding, it was a great day for two of the nicest
people you're likely to meet anywhere.
